Xbox One the Walking Dead game
Overkill has announced that their co-op Walking Dead game will be current gen only, although they still haven’t released any screenshots.
There have been two The Walking Dead games so far. One is Telltale Games’ award winning series of graphic adventures and the other is Activision’s abominably awful first person shooter. But now there’s a third, by Payday developer Overkill.
The game was announced last year with the trailer below, but nothing has been heard of it since. But today Overkill has announced that the game is still on for a 2016 release on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. And it’ll be published by 505 Games, who also handled Payday.
Although there’s still no clue as to what the game will look like it’s based solely on the comic book and not the TV show, so it won’t matter if that gets cancelled or goes downhill by next year.
According to Overkill’s parent company Starbreeze the game will ‘deliver a completely new co-op experience to The Walking Dead-universe, exploring new characters’
They still haven’t released any videos, or even so much as a screenshot of the game, so it’s unclear whether it will go for a photorealistic approach or if it’ll try and look like the comic book – in a similar manner to the Telltale Games.
Comic creator Robert Kirkman seems to be more closely involved with the game than any of the others, and recently described it as ‘a bigger world than Payday currently encompasses. They are going to be learning a lot of stuff from Payday that they will be incorporating into The Walking Dead game.’
