Update:Bethesda's Pete Hines has explained that the listing was a bug. "We have been working on the CMS that runs our sites, " he said. "A bug caused platforms that don't exist to show up for some games."

As for the email tease? Hines says that's a hoax, too.

Original story: Will The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim be released for the new consoles? A product listing for the game on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 temporarily popped up on Bethesda's website overnight.

OnlySP spotted and captured the information-which was quickly removed-alongside an e-mail tease from the publisher suggesting an announcement on January 12. That's this Sunday, which would traditionally be a peculiar day for a big unveiling.

A version of Skyrim on the new consoles would almost certainly bring the game in line with the PC version, which offers a far smoother, more detailed, and ultimately snappier experience. If such a port is in the works, then hopefully Bethesda could find a way for 360/PS3 users to bring their hulking saves across to their latest machines.
